A former assistant baseball coach at a Huntington Beach high school is scheduled to be arraigned May 16 on charges of having sex with a minor and contributing to her delinquency after police allegedly caught him and a 15-year-old girl who attends that school partially clad in a car.

Fountain Valley police says an officer found Cory Colbert, 23, with the teen-ager early Saturday in a vehicle parked behind a store in the 17200 block of Brookhurst Street. At the time, Colbert worked as a coach at Ocean View High in Huntington Beach.

“The two were (trying to grab) their clothes,” police spokesman Dann Bean said. Colbert “was arrested and brought to the Police Department that night.”

Colbert of Huntington Beach was released on his own recognizance that same night, Bean said. Having sex with a minor is a felony and contributing to a minor’s delinquency is a misdemeanor, police said.

Colbert has since lost his job as an assistant coach with the boys’ varsity baseball team, Principal Carla Rush said.

“Cory Colbert is no longer an employee of the district,” said Rush, who is in charge of the 2,000-student school that serves Huntington Beach, Westminster, and Fountain Valley. She declined further comment.

Colbert could not be reached for comment.
