Share

A fire broke out in a Glendale apartment complex early Friday, the second arson fire in the neighborhood in less than a week, police said.

At least one resident suffered smoke inhalation, and the complex at 1019 E. Glenoaks Blvd. was briefly evacuated, police said.

The fire broke out about 2 a.m. near one of the building’s elevators, said Sgt. Mel Barnes of the Glendale Police Department. After the blaze was extinguished, investigators found a flammable liquid in one of the complex’s elevators.

The building’s three elevator shafts were destroyed in the fire, Barnes said.

No damage estimates were available.

On April 19, an arson fire gutted a nearby apartment complex but caused no serious injuries, Barnes said. There have been no arrests in either incident, he said.
