Van Nuys Man, 67, Fatally Stabbed
A 67-year-old man was stabbed to death early Saturday inside his Van Nuys apartment, authorities said.
Police said Fred Corthron was stabbed several times in the chest about 6 a.m.
Michael Love, 18, also of Van Nuys, an acquaintance of the victim’s, was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Love was arrested at his apartment less than a block away from Corthron’s Saturday evening after police discovered evidence that they believe linked him to the slaying. They said robbery was the apparent motive.
“Neighbors heard the victim screaming for help,” said Detective Steve Fisk of the Van Nuys Division of the LAPD. “They went outside and found him in the hallway still alive. They took him back in and called paramedics, but he died at the scene.”
Corthron lived in an apartment complex in the 9500 block of Van Nuys Boulevard.
