PIRU : Federal Grant Sought for Historic Areas
- Share via
Ventura County is applying for a federal grant to help preserve historic portions of Piru that were damaged in the Jan. 17 earthquake.
If approved, the $50,000 Community Development Block Grant would fund planning and engineering studies to preserve sections of the tiny community’s downtown.
Several buildings in the business district were “yellow-tagged” after the earthquake, indicating that they were dangerous to enter. All are listed in the State of California Historical Resources Inventory, which makes them eligible for historical preservation funds, county officials said.
Also damaged was a state landmark adobe on the Camulos Ranch.
