PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Foster Delivers in 12th for Sunny Hills

Kate Foster had a run-scoring single in the 12th inning to give Sunny Hills a 1-0 victory over Fullerton in a Freeway League softball game Thursday at Sunny Hills.

Foster’s hit scored Jodi Brooks from second. Jennifer Dean pitched a four-hitter for Sunny Hills (11-8, 4-1 in league), which moved into first place at the halfway point.

In other Freeway League games:

Sonora 6, Buena Park 1--Tiffany Kind, who had a perfect game through six innings, struck out seven and gave up one hit to improve to 9-7 for host Sonora. Teri Bryant had two hits, including a bases-loaded triple, and scored once for Sonora (12-11, 3-3).

La Habra 2, Troy 0--Amber Duarte had three hits, one RBI and two steals and Edie Topping and Heather Tom each added two hits for La Habra (6-11, 2-4). Cristy Turner struck out three and gave up two hits for the Highlanders.

In the Century League:

Canyon 1, Santa Ana Valley 0 (8)--Veronica Lopez, who pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts for Canyon (12-5, 4-1), scored the game-winning run on a single by Jennifer Broughton in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Villa Park 1, El Modena 0 (9)--Brandee McArthur pitched a one-hitter and doubled for Villa Park, which won in the ninth when Silvia Salgado walked, took second on a sacrifice, went to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch. Villa Park improved to 13-8 and 4-1 in league, and El Modena dropped to 7-12 and 2-3 in league.

Foothill 2, Orange 1 (9)--With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, outfielder Marissa Holmes singled home Amy Barnes for Foothill (17-6, 5-1). Holmes went two for three.

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 3, Garden Grove 0--Lisa Pitt (14-1) struck out 10 and gave up four hits to earn her ninth shutout for Kennedy (17-4-1, 10-0-1). Laurie Fritz had two hits and an RBI for Kennedy.

La Quinta 8, Los Amigos 1--Michelle Weld gave up no runs on one hit through four innings and Jaclyn Fredrickson doubled, scored two runs and had two RBIs for La Quinta (15-5, 8-2).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 1, Brethren Christian 0--Debora Goddu (7-5) pitched her her fourth consecutive shutout for visiting Whittier Christian (8-6, 7-1). She had eight strikeouts. Goddu had a one-out triple in the seventh and scored on a single by Jody Miller. Michelle Reutter of Brethren Christian (11-5, 4-4) struck out eight.

Orange Lutheran 6, Ontario Christian 3--Junior Michelle Harrison struck out 10 and went two for four for Orange Lutheran (8-5, 3-4). Caroline Schulz also went two for four for Orange Lutheran.

In the Orange League:

Western 5, Anaheim 4--Andrea Salas had two hits and an RBI and Belen Hernandez gave up one earned run on six hits for Anaheim (1-13, 1-4).

Brea-Olinda 10, Magnolia 5--Gretchen Thompson was two for three, including one triple, and had two RBIs for host Brea-Olinda (7-10, 2-3). Coleen Clark had two RBIs for the Wildcats.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 2, Century 1--Junior Ann Marie Froysaa, who scored Trabuco Hills’ first run, drove in Kelly Stout with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Natalie Galasso pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Mustangs.

Costa Mesa 12, Estancia 0--The county’s leading hitter, Tabby Cleveland, went three for four with two RBIs and four stolen bases to lead Costa Mesa. Nicola Woody was three for four with two RBIs.

Laguna Hills 10, Laguna Beach 2--Shortstop Misty Thompson was three for four, scored three runs and had two RBIs for Laguna Hills. Jessica Roache hit a two-run home run in third inning for host Laguna Beach (4-13, 0-6).
