PREP ROUNDUP : Marino Hits Two Homers, Kennedy Pounds Pacifica

Charlie Marino hit two home runs and drove in five runs as Kennedy beat Pacifica, 11-0, in a Garden Grove League baseball game Thursday at Kennedy.

Marino homered in the first inning and hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. He was four for four, and scored three runs.

Joe Zannitto pitched a one-hitter, his second this season, and struck out 10 and walked none. Wes Morris was two for three, with three runs scored for Kennedy.

In the Century League:

Santa Ana Valley 8, Foothill 6--Rick Crosby went two for two with two RBIs and Ricky Chavez had two RBIs for Santa Ana Valley (11-9, 6-4). Johnny Garcia had three stolen bases for the Falcons, who were seven of nine in stolen-base attempts.

In the Freeway League:

Troy 6, Buena Park 3--Brian Logan had two hits and two RBIs to lead visiting Troy (13-6, 6-4). Aaron Hudson had three hits and two RBIs for Buena Park (10-8, 6-4).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 10, Magnolia 3--Dan Anderson had a double, triple and two RBIs and Jason Theis had a double and three RBIs for Brea-Olinda (18-2, 8-2).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 5, Laguna Hills 3--Jeremy Starns and John Schroeder each hit bases-empty home runs for Costa Mesa (6-14, 2-8).

In Century League golf:

Villa Park 211, Canyon 215--Steve Murray shot par 35 at Anaheim Hills to help Villa Park (10-6, 7-1) clinch the league title.

In the Orange League:

Valencia 198, Western 206--Junior James Wooley shot one-under 35 at Los Coyotes to lead Valencia (15-3, 7-1) to its seventh league title in the last eight years. Tiger Woods shot 33, his 10th consecutive under-par round, for Western (13-5, 5-3).

Brea-Olinda 203, Magnolia 254--Wayne Wilson shot two-over 37 at Dad Miller for Brea-Olinda (12-5, 6-2).

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 210, Loara 271--Sophomore Ryan Donovan was a medalist for the sixth time this season, shooting two-over 37 for Esperanza (16-1, 9-0) at Yorba Linda Country Club.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 199, Woodbridge 208--Billy Sarracino and Scott Bemis each shot three-over 38 for Corona del Mar (15-2, 10-1) at Newport Beach Country Club.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 379, Marina 422--Greg Uberuaga shot two-under 69 and Scott Blaska shot one-over 72 at SeaCliff for Huntington Beach (15-1, 10-1).

Edison 211, Servite 214--Dave Searle shot two-over 37 at Hacienda to lead Edison (11-5, 7-3), which knocked Servite (14-3, 9-2) out of first place.

In the South Coast League:

San Clemente 403, Dana Hills 423--Freshman Mike Zapel shot two-over 74 at Pacific Golf Club for San Clemente (13-3, 8-1), which moved a half match behind Dana Hills (13-3, 9-1).

In Century League boys’ tennis:

Villa Park 15 1/3, El Modena 5 2/3--Ryan Hollis swept No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and Chad Smith and B.K. Chang swept No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, for visiting Villa Park (12-3, 5-2).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 16, Magnolia 5--Steve Tsai and Madhav Boddula each swept their singles sets for Brea-Olinda (13-4, 6-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 12 2/3, Laguna Beach 8 1/3--Bryan Heyl and Darron Evans swept No. 3 doubles, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, to lead visiting Trabuco Hills (9-5, 4-1).

Laguna Hills 11 1/3, Estancia 9 2/3--The doubles teams of Dennis Harper and Wayne Arnold and Kenton Payne and Christian Schutte swept their sets for host Laguna Hills (7-10, 6-1).

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 11 1/3, San Clemente 9 2/3--The No. 3 doubles team of Brian Gruner and Coung Tran won its sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, for Mission Viejo (7-7, 5-2).

In the Sunset League:

Ocean View 20, Santa Ana 1--Doubles teams Bill Lee and Tim Vo and Nam Tran and Jeff Yee didn’t lose a game for Ocean View (14-3, 11-2).
