Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Santa Clarita City Hall Reopens
Fifteen weeks after the Northridge earthquake battered City Hall, the Valencia building reopened Monday with an abundance of stacked boxes and scattered furniture the only evidence of its ordeal.
Repairs cost about $4.5 million.
City workers are still unpacking much of their equipment and supplies, but all regular services are again available to the public.
Mayor George Pederson officially reopened the building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and announced new City Hall office hours.
Starting May 13, City Hall will be closed on alternate Fridays. The office will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every other Friday.
The new hours are meant to help Santa Clarita meet South Coast Air Quality Management District standards that call for organizations with 100 or more employees to reduce car trips to work. Santa Clarita has about 185 full-time city employees.
