Somehow, the Yale Raiders Doesn’t Have Right Sound
Goodby, Orlando. Hello, Connecticut?
A week after the Raiders made it clear to Orlando officials that they had no intention of seriously negotiating a move to that Florida city, owner Al Davis has agreed to meet with Connecticut Governor Lowell Weicker in Los Angeles about Weicker’s desire to land a pro football team for his state.
Weicker also plans on meeting with Ram officials during a whirlwind trip to the West Coast in the near future.
All indications are that Raiders are merely being polite to Weicker, that they have no intention of considering a move to Connecticut, where they would play in the Yale Bowl for three or four years before a proposed new stadium would be ready. It would cost about $25 million to provide the Yale Bowl with locker rooms and a large enough press box for NFL games.
“The only thing I am not going to do is get into some harebrained scheme which is meant to bootstrap somebody else’s bid,” Weicker said Thursday. “If we are looked on seriously, and I think we are looked on seriously by both teams, then obviously I am going to do everything I can, personally, to bring about closure on it.”
