Gunmen Rob Restaurant, Fire a Shot

Share

Three armed men robbed a fast-food store just minutes after it opened Saturday morning, taking nearly $600 and firing one shot before fleeing, police said.

The men walked into the Taco Bell restaurant, at 2222 Barranca Parkway, at 6:10 a.m. and brandished handguns before ordering employees to open the safe, said Irvine Police Officer Amy Brown.

When the employees said they did not have access to the safe, the men forced the manager at gunpoint to open the cash drawers, she said. One gunman took $583 in cash from the drawers, she said.

A robber then fired his weapon once into the floor near the manager and threatened to return later to kill him, Brown said.

The robbers fled in a tan, 1989 two-door sedan.
