A confrontation between two groups of teen-agers on an elementary school basketball court apparently led to shooting in an alley behind the school Tuesday, police said.

Sam Tafao, 19, of Buena Park was wounded in the head and airlifted to UCI Medical Center just after 5:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Gary A. Querry. Tafao was in guarded condition late Tuesday.

Iona Avesi Uiagalelei, 18, of Pomona was wounded in the legs and was taken by ambulance to Western Medical Center-Anaheim, where he was reported in stable condition.

Both men were found in an alley behind the 100 block of South Winchester Drive, where police believe the shooting took place.

Investigators said the two men were playing basketball behind Danbrook Elementary School, when a confrontation developed between two groups of people.

Investigators from both the robbery/homicide and gang units responded to the scene. However, police said they do not know the cause of the dispute, and that no arrests had been made.
