Florida Airline Lands Route To Be Abandoned

Share

A Florida-based airline will begin twice-daily flights between Long Beach and Dallas, taking over a route that American Airlines has decided to abandon.

Sun Jet International will begin operations on June 17, company President Scott Bacon said last week. The one-way fare will be $99, or $129 to continue on to Newark, N.J.

The eight-month-old airline was given the go-ahead by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the city, which allocates flight slots for commercial airlines.

American Airlines announced last month that it would halt its two remaining flights out of Long Beach on June 16 because of low passenger volume. It was the fifth airline in four years to pull out of Long Beach Airport.

Sun Jet is one of four new airlines seeking to initiate new routes into and out of Long Beach.
