Jerry Devine; Early Film Actor, Broadway Producer

Jerry Devine, 85, an actor-producer whose screen career began with such silent features as “Sherlock Holmes” starring John Barrymore and “The Headless Horseman” with Will Rogers, both in 1922. He later turned to writing and two of his plays--”Children of the Wind” and “Never Live Over a Pretzel Factory”--were produced on Broadway. In the 1940s he did radio writing, contributing regularly to such episodic shows as “Mr. District Attorney” and “This Is Your FBI,” which he also produced and directed. In Santa Barbara on Friday.
