Irvine Fight Card Features State Title Bout
The California junior lightweight championship will be on the line in tonight’s main event at the Irvine Marriott Ballroom when Upland’s Ben Lopez defends his title against Hector Monjardin of Carson.
The 12-round fight is a rematch of Monjardin’s knockout victory over Lopez in a non-title bout March 12 at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. Lopez is 20-12 with 14 knockouts, while Monjardin is 13-5 with five knockouts.
In the co-main event, middleweight Rodney Toney (12-0) of Campo will fight Ramon Felix of Tucson (20-8) in an eight-round fight. Toney is managed by Joe Sayatovich, who manages world junior middleweight champion Terry Norris.
Headlining the five-bout undercard is four-round fight between Costa Mesa welterweight Jamie Valdez (9-2) and Bermuda Dunes’ Tony West (8-3). Tickets, priced at $25, $30 and $35, are on sale today in the ballroom beginning at 9 a.m.
