Windmiller Among Six All-Americans

Six area players were honored as NCAA Division I All-Americans on Wednesday by the National Softball Coaches Assn. as part of the College Softball World Series festivities.

Teammates Amy Chellevold (Thousand Oaks High) and Jenny Dalton (Glendale) of top-ranked Arizona and Amy Windmiller of Cal State Northridge were first-team selections. Both teams are competing in the World Series, which begins today.

Windmiller, a senior right-hander, is 24-2 with a national-best earned-run average of 0.28. Windmiller, the first Matador pitcher to earn first-team Division I honors, tossed five no-hitters this season.

Chellevold, a junior first baseman, batted .488 with 45 runs batted in and 27 stolen bases. Dalton, a junior second baseman, batted .428 with 13 home runs and 81 RBIs.

Kim Maher, a shortstop from Fresno State and Buena High, was a second-team selection. Cal State Northridge seniors Shannon Jones, a third baseman, and utility player Tamara Ivie were third-team selections.
