Share

Ventura fire officials are investigating the cause of a suspicious brush fire that broke out Tuesday north of Hillcrest Drive, near Catalina Street.

Ventura Battalion Chief Bill Rigg said investigators could not find remnants of a cigarette or any other accidental cause of the blaze that consumed about three-quarters of an acre.

“No one was even in the area when the fire began,” Rigg said.

Firefighters were called about 1:45 p.m., and had the blaze under control in about 10 minutes, authorities said. No one was injured, Rigg said.
