Share

Organizers of the Lions Fish Fry and Carnival are expecting more than 20,000 people to attend a parade Saturday, and hope to raise more than $140,000 for charity.

The 10 a.m. parade will be on Harbor Boulevard between Victoria and 19th streets, parade organizer Hugo Hunziker said. He said the parade is traditionally the highlight of the three-day event.

“The weather looks good, and that has a lot to do with it,” Hunziker said Thursday. “I think it’ll be great.”

The Lions will donate money to the UC Irvine eye bank, to youth clubs, soup kitchens, senior citizens groups and other organizations, Hunziker said.

Fish dinners will be sold for $5 each. Carnival rides and the fish dinners will start today at 5:30 p.m. and run through Sunday. The fish fry, carnival, stage shows and a beauty contest will be held at Lions Park, at 18th Street and Anaheim Avenue.

Events are from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

An estimated 60,000 people are expected over the length of the fish fry and carnival.
