BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Sanders’ Plea Falls on Deaf Ears

After he flew to New York at his own expense to plead his case, Reggie Sanders’ five-game suspension for charging Montreal’s Pedro Martinez on the mound on April 13 was upheld by National League President Leonard Coleman.
It was Coleman’s first disciplinary action as NL president.
Sanders had sought to have his suspension reduced to four games, in line with those that have been meted out since his incident.
