SEAL BEACH : Plan for Volleyball Court Advances

Share

A plan to build a volleyball court and install new playground equipment at Edison Park has received approval from the city’s Parks Commission.

But opponents will have a final chance to halt the project when the City Council takes up the matter in the next few weeks.

College Park West residents have spent more than a year planning the park’s first improvement project in more than 20 years.

The proposal has raised the ire of residents whose homes back onto the park.

They fear the volleyball court will increase noise and bring rowdy youths into the neighborhood.

The Parks Commission unanimously approved the plan last month, agreeing with proponents of the project who argued that Edison Park and the surrounding neighborhood would benefit from the volleyball court.

“We are delighted with the decision,” said Lisa Chattler, a leader of the Edison Improvement Assn.

If the council approves the plan, Chattler said, residents will attempt to raise the $12,000 needed for new playground equipment.

The group has already raised about $6,000.
