Name: MARCY CROUCH

Position: Pitcher

School: Marina, Jr.

Crouch, a two-time selection, allowed only five earned runs and four were in one game; she finished 17-2 with a 0.30 ERA. She struck out 120 in 115 innings and issued only four walks. She also helped herself at the plate, batting .325 with nine RBIs and 21 runs.

Name: STEFANIE NOFFSINGER

Position: Pitcher

School: Huntington Beach, Sr.

Noffsinger’s season nearly ended when a line drive hit her in the head, but she recovered well enough to finish with 88 strikeouts in 70 innings, an 8-3 record, three no-hitters and a county-low 0.10 earned-run average. She will attend Michigan State this fall.

Name: LISA PITT

Position: Pitcher

School: Kennedy, Jr.

Pitt averaged a no-hitter every four appearances, leading the county with six, including two perfect games. She struck out 138 and finished with a 16-2 record and 0.37 earned-run average, helping Kennedy share the Garden Grove League championship.

Name: KATHY PONCE

Position: Pitcher

School: Ocean View, Jr.

Ponce struck out a county-high 187 batters in 137 innings, compiled a 17-5 record and 0.20 ERA with three no-hitters. On offense, she produced 18 runs, with nine RBIs and nine runs scored. As a pitcher, she allowed only 20 runs, only four earned.

Name: CAROLYN WILSON

Position: Catcher

School: Los Alamitos, Sr.

Wilson batted .333 with a .435 on-base average and .551 slugging percentage. She scored 13 runs, drove in 22 and homered once, doubled four times and tripled five times. She also threw out eight of 10 would-be base stealers. She will play at Pacific next year.

Name: LYNETTE VELAZQUEZ

Position: First base

School: Marina, Jr.

Velazquez wasn’t the definitive defensive first baseman, but she had the kind of offensive year that garnered her Sunset League co-most valuable player honors: She batted .452 with three home runs, 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Her slugging average was an impressive .698.

Name: MICHELLE CHURNOCK

Position: Infielder

School: Foothill, Jr.

Churnock, a two-time selection, led off and played shortstop on a team whose trademark was speed and defense. She batted .548, scored 22 runs, drove in eight and stole 31 bases, and her 46 hits were second-most in the county. Her fielding average was .925.

Name: CANDACE KOLLEN

Position: Infielder

School: Mater Dei, Sr.

Kollen was in the middle of most Mater Dei rallies. She batted .526, scored 23 runs and drove in 15. Her 33 stolen bases was third-highest in the county. She was also sure-handed at third base, making 97.5% of her plays. She will attend Ohio State this fall.

Name: MICHELLE SCHNEIDER

Position: Infielder

School: Los Alamitos, Jr.

Schneider was a prime reason Los Alamitos’ offense was so potent. Batting third, she hit .415 with three homers, 24 RBIs and scored 16 runs. She also played a terrific shortstop, successfully converting 95.5% of her chances and helping the Griffins to the league title.

Name: DANA GULICK

Position: Outfielder

School: El Toro, So.

Gulick batted .417 and scored 15 runs, helping El Toro win the South Coast League title. She missed nine games with a hamstring injury, but still stole 18 bases in 20 games in the Chargers’ conservative approach, and she didn’t make an error in center field.

Name: ALISON JOHNSEN

Position: Outfielder

School: Woodbridge, Sr.

Johnsen, a three-time selection, led the county in batting (.619), hits (52), runs (38) and stolen bases (53); she had two homers and 12 RBIs for Sea View League co-champion Woodbridge. She has a scholarship to play next year for NCAA champion Arizona.

Name: ALYCIA STEVENS

Position: Outfielder

School: Laguna Hills, Sr.

Stevens slapped and bunted her way to a .542 average and scored 24 runs in 20 games for the Pacific Coast League champions. She also had 10 RBIs to complement her 16 stolen bases. Her value? A collision knocked her out of six games and her team lost five of them.

Name: NICOLA WALSH

Position: Designated hitter

School: Rosary, Sr.

Walsh, a second baseman, batted .475 with 11 RBIs and scored 22 runs for the fifth-place Royals. Most impressive is she did the bulk of it against Sunset League pitchers who compose three of the four all-county selections. She will play next year at Long Beach State.

Name: DEBBIE WILSON

Position: Utility

School: Los Alamitos, Sr.

Though Wilson was out of position as a pitcher, she was among the leaders with a 14-1 record and 0.41 earned-run average while striking out 101 in 101 2/3 innings. She is also one of the county’s best first basemen, and will probably play both for Pacific.
