KOCE Channel 50 in Huntington Beach is “keeping the door open” but has no firm plans to offer PTV, a new PBS service for children that KCET Channel 28 in Los Angeles will begin July 11 and that other stations are expected to pick up in January. KCET will be among 11 stations in the country launching the package of children’s shows and outreach programs for parents and teachers, aimed at helping all kids start school “ready to learn” by the year 2000. A KOCE official said she is not sure when or if the channel would pick up the service, but she noted that the channel already offers six hours a day of instructional programming for students in grades K through 12.
