A 31-year-old man was stabbed in the arm late Sunday while trying to help another man who was being robbed and beaten by several suspected gang members, police said Monday.
The stabbing victim was treated at Huntington Beach Medical Center for a wound to his right forearm after the assault in the 17400 block of Queens Lane, Sgt. Mike Willett said.
The incident started at 11:10 p.m. when Augustine Martinez, 25, who was walking along the street, was beaten to the ground and robbed of his wallet by five to seven young men, Willett said. The wallet contained only a small amount of cash.
Two men--Francisco Lopez, 31, and Gerado Carrillo, 19, ran to help the robbery victim, but they were punched in the face and kicked by the robbers for their efforts. During the attack Lopez was stabbed by one of the assailants.
Police did not name the cities where the victims live.
Police are still looking for the robbers, described as possible gang members.
