One man died and another suffered a heart attack after a fistfight between neighbors at an apartment complex last weekend, police said Tuesday.

The fight, which took place Sunday night in the 300 block of East Pine Street, sent Ruben Torres Ceniceros to the hospital with head injuries, according to Lt. Robert Helton. Ceniceros, a 29-year-old resident of the complex, died Monday.

At the time of the fight, Ceniceros’ neighbor in the complex, Sherwin Robert Bennett, 43, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, police said, although he used only his hands to beat Ceniceros.

After Ceniceros died, Helton said, police were preparing to upgrade the charges against Bennett when they learned he had been hospitalized Monday after suffering a heart attack and was in critical condition.

Police area still attempting to piece together the events leading up to the fight and determine whether anyone else was involved, according to Lt. Bob Chavez. The dispute appeared to be over money, Chavez said, but the investigation is continuing.
