An Oxnard man faces felony drug charges after he was caught tending 56 marijuana plants near the grounds of Camarillo State Hospital, Ventura County sheriff’s detectives said Monday.

Luis Martin Rodriguez, 30, was being held at the Ventura County Jail on Monday on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, sheriff’s officials said. His bail was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to be arraigned today in Ventura County Municipal Court.

A tipster told sheriff’s detectives that marijuana was growing in a small ravine near the intersection of Lewis Road and Hueneme Road in Camarillo, outside the state hospital grounds, Detective Bob Garcia said.

Detectives staked out the garden and caught Rodriguez refilling a makeshift drip system he had built to feed water to the plants through pinholes drilled into milk jugs, Garcia said.

Garcia said he and other detectives arrested Rodriguez and confiscated the 1- to 3 1/2-foot-tall plants.
