SAN FERNANDO : Suspect Sought in 3 Abduction Attempts

Police are warning residents to be on the lookout for a man who has tried three times to abduct girls in San Fernando.

Sgt. Bill Greene of the San Fernando Police Department said Tuesday that his department has released a composite sketch of the man officials believe is responsible for accosting three girls since April.

“We’re making the assumption that they are related because of the similarities of the vehicle and the suspect’s description,” Greene said.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 35 and 50 years old, green or brown eyes, gray-white or brownish-gray hair, with a mustache and goatee. He also has a large cross tattooed on his upper right arm.

Greene described the suspect’s vehicle as a white, late model Mercury Tempo or Ford Taurus. There is no link between the suspect and the Valley molester, Greene said.

The latest incident occurred June 1 about 5:15 p.m. when a man encountered a young girl in the 1000 block of Holister Street.

According to police, the man told the girl to get in the car, saying he would take her home to her mother. When the girl refused and turned around, the man drove the car into a driveway and cut her off.

At that point, the girl glanced inside the car and discovered that the man had exposed himself and was performing a lewd act.

“She was able to run around the car and make an escape,” Greene said.

Two other incidents in April, which took place on the 500 block of Harding Street, were similar, Greene said. All have involved elementary-school age girls.

Greene is asking parents in the area to warn their children not to talk to or take rides from strangers. Anyone spotting the suspect should call the San Fernando Police Department immediately at (818) 898-1267. If he is in the vehicle, police say, try to get the license plate number, but do not approach him.

“We’re still fielding clues on the case,” Greene said. “We appreciate any help the community may be able to give us.”
