Skip Loader Hits Firetruck; 1 Hurt
An Orange County Fire Department engine about to take part in a traffic accident rescue drill was crushed Wednesday evening by a 45,000-pound skip loader that careened across Los Alisos Boulevard and smashed into the parked firetruck.
The driver of the skip loader escaped injuries and the driver of the fire engine suffered only bruises to one arm, but the $200,000 firetruck may have been destroyed, Fire Department spokeswoman Emmy Day said.
Day said the accident is still under investigation, but officials speculate that a mechanical problem may have caused the skip loader to go out of control.
