The biggest problem for Belgium was helping its fans get to Chicago for its game Saturday against Germany.

About 10,000 Belgian fans were in South Florida, expecting to stay for a Belgium-Ireland match Tuesday. However, Belgium’s 1-0 loss to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday sent the Belgians to Chicago instead. Scheduled flights out of Orlando simply couldn’t accommodate the hordes of followers.

“If 500 fans from Belgium are in Chicago, that would be a success,” said Roger van den Stock, an official of the Belgian Football Assn. before the game.
