THOUSAND OAKS : Disaster Response Volunteers Sought

Share

Thousand Oaks residents interested in learning how to fight fires, use ham radios and rescue hard-to-reach victims are invited to join the city’s Disaster Assistance Response Team, known as DART.

The 30 team members are recruiting new members this summer and hope to begin general disaster-preparedness training in the fall.

Emergency response experts will teach monthly classes on such subjects as disaster psychology and damage assessment. Participants also learn to perform first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

In Thousand Oaks, DART members also volunteer to help out with special events, such as traffic control during the Fourth of July fireworks show and the annual Conejo Valley Days.

The group’s meeting, usually at City Hall or the East Valley sheriff’s station, are held on the third Thursday of each month and are open to the public. For information, call Stacy Park in the city manager’s office at 496-8652.
