About 25 county firefighters were dispatched to Hesperia and other city units in the county were placed on alert Monday as wildfires continued to burn, threatening mountain and desert resort areas.

Orange County Fire Department dispatcher Leo Schneider said Monday that a team of firefighters was sent to assist area units in fighting stubborn blazes which have caused the evacuation of campgrounds near Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear.

Wildfires also caused the evacuation of homes near Palm Desert.

Schneider said the county strike team left about 3 p.m. Sunday and it was not known when they would return or whether additional county units would be needed.

Fire departments in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana were also placed on alert in the event more help is needed, officials said.

“If they need us, we definitely have the resources,” Schneider said. “As I understand it, they have several fires working up there. Bu we haven’t received any recent updates.”
