AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL : Amitin Again Hits Winning Triple as Van Nuys South Beats Sun Valley

Aaron Amitin tripled with two out in the sixth inning to drive in two runs and give Van Nuys South a 6-4 victory over Sun Valley in an American Legion District 20 game Wednesday at Grant High.

It marked the second game in a row Amitin has driven in the winning run with a triple.

Sun Valley (11-4) loaded the bases in the seventh before Mike Weiss struck out the last batter.

David Corleto homered for Van Nuys South (5-8).

In other District 20 games:

Woodland Hills East 7, Granada Hills East 1--Rusty Jenkins (3-2) pitched a five-hitter, struck out two and walked four for Woodland Hills East (5-9) at Taft High.

Scott Horowitz and David Helman each had two runs batted in.

Van Nuys East 11, North Hollywood 1--Van Nuys East had 13 hits and Andy Lutz held North Hollywood to two hits at Notre Dame High. Van Nuys East (9-4) stole 12 bases in as many attempts. Wes Clain and Joey Orlando each had three hits.

Canoga Park 8, Studio City 7--Sean Hansen hit a three-run home run in the sixth to lift Canoga Park at Faith Baptist High. Canoga Park rallied from a 6-0 deficit. Alfredo Guerra had three hits.

Granada Hills West 2, West Hills 0--Jim O’Brien lined a two-run single in the fifth and three Granada Hills West pitchers combined on a one-hitter at Chaminade High. Adam Crecion singled for the only West Hills’ hit.

Verdugo Hills 4, Sunland-Tujunga 3--Bryan Chan pitched a five-hitter, struck out 13 and walked three for Verdugo Hills (13-4). David Boger homered in the eighth for the winning run.
