News, Tips & Bargains : Museum of Natural History Opens
A new, interactive museum in the Pacific Northwest has just opened in the southern Oregon community of Ashland.
The largest exhibit in the 30,000-square-foot Pacific Northwest Museum of Natural History is “Treasures of the Northwest,” which re-creates ecosystems found in the region. This and other exhibits are designed to appeal to all the senses by incorporating sound effects, lighting and fragrances. Visitors are issued personal access codes to be used in so-called “activity centers,” which feature videos, microscopes, flip panels and computers.
After touring the museum, visitors receive a “passport” to the Pacific Northwest, which recommend other places to go and things to do.
The museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland (tel. 503-488-1084) is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Admission is $6 for adults; $5 for seniors, and $4.50 for children 5 to 15.
