SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Candidates Can File for Council Election

The filing period for the Nov. 8 City Council election opens July 18, with three seats up for grabs.

Nomination papers can be submitted to the city clerk’s office July 18 through 5 p.m. Aug. 12. The deadline would be extended to Aug. 17 if any of the three incumbents decides not to seek reelection.

Council members whose terms expire this year are Gil Jones, Gary L. Hausdorfer and Jeff Vasquez.

Nomination papers must be signed by a minimum of 20 San Juan Capistrano registered voters.

Candidates are also required to submit a disclosure statement listing all investments and financial involvement in real estate. There is no charge for filing nomination papers.

However, there is a $650 charge for candidate statements. The statement includes the candidate’s age, occupation and a maximum 200-word description of education and qualifications for City Council. The fee is due at the time the nomination papers are filed.

Candidates must be registered voters living in San Juan Capistrano. Nomination forms are available at the city clerk’s office in City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto.
