ARCADIA : Two Girls, 16, Escape Kidnaping Attempt

Share

Arcadia police are searching for a man who shot two teen-age girls with a stun gun and tried to kidnap them as they walked home in a quiet residential neighborhood.

Police describe the suspect as an African American man between the ages of 30 and 35; he is 6 feet, 3 inches tall, weighs more than over 200 pounds and has a shaved head. He was wearing what appeared to be a red nylon warm-up suit at the time of the incident, police said. The two 16-year-old girls were attacked about 10:30 p.m. July 5 while walking in the 1300 block of Golden West Avenue, which borders Temple City, Arcadia Police Capt. Dave Hinig said.

They were approached from behind by a man who grabbed one of them by the neck and tried to pull her into a maroon 1990 or 1991 Dodge van. He discharged the stun gun at her back, Hinig said, as the teen-ager resisted and screamed. He then grabbed the other girl and shot her with the stun gun in the upper torso.

A 29-year-old Temple City man heard the girls’ screams, Hinig said and ran to their aid. The suspect jumped into the van and fled.

The girls’ injuries were superficial, police said.
