Third-place games rarely generate much interest, and it doesn’t help when the competing teams do little to spur the imagination. Italia ’90 at least had the host team and a recognized power in England to draw interest. But Sweden and Bulgaria?

So how tough a sell have been tickets to today’s game? Enough so that anyone purchasing an adult admission to SoccerFest on Friday at the Los Angeles Convention Center and expressing an interest in attending was given a free ticket. That’s the same ticket that was selling for $60 a week ago and had been listed as sold out in advertisements the last few days.
