Sept. 13 Election Ordered to Fill Hill’s Senate Seat
Gov. Pete Wilson has called a special election for Sept. 13 to replace former Sen. Frank Hill (R-Whittier), who stepped down from office after he was convicted of federal corruption charges.
If no candidate wins a majority of votes cast, there will be a runoff in the Nov. 8 election.
Hill resigned his office July 8, three weeks after a federal jury found him guilty of extortion, money laundering and conspiracy--charges that stemmed from his taking a $2,500 payment from an undercover FBI agent who was part of a sting operation. Hill remains free while awaiting sentencing.
Hill’s 29th Senate District, which includes a large slice of the San Gabriel Valley, is considered favorable for Republican candidates.
Two Assembly Republicans, Paul Horcher of Diamond Bar and Richard Mountjoy of Arcadia, are considering running for the office.
