SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

It was a paper trail even Elmer Fudd could have followed.

An 18-year-old female employee of Six Flags Magic Mountain was arrested on suspicion of stealing about $3,300 worth of clothing and other merchandise featuring the amusement park’s cartoon characters by writing more than a dozen checks in two days from a closed account, authorities said.

Tyshae Shanae Price, 18, of Los Angeles was booked Monday night on suspicion of obtaining property under false pretenses, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Valento said. She was released shortly afterward to her mother’s care.

Magic Mountain officials learned about the thefts when a handful of Price’s checks, written to various stores throughout the park, were declared invalid because the account had been closed in December, 1993, Valento said.

Price bought two dozen shirts, three leather jackets, numerous pieces of jewelry and other items by writing an unspecified number of checks Sunday and 13 more Monday.

A security official arrested Price about 9 p.m. Monday when a store manager reported Price was trying to make another purchase. Price told the guard she had two male friends nearby who were helping her carry the merchandise, but the men left before officials could question them.

Price is no longer an employee of Magic Mountain, said Bonnie Rabjohn, a park spokeswoman.
