BOWLING : Goebel Wins Second PBA Title of Year
Bryan Goebel won his second PBA title of the year and the fourth of his career Tuesday night when he defeated Steve Hoskins, 247-201, in the championship game of the $100,000 Active West Open in Ontario.
Goebel, who entered the finals as the tournament leader for the first time in his career, threw the high game of the stepladder in the championship match. He earned $14,000 for the victory.
“I was aggressive from the start of this tournament right through the last match,” Goebel said. “I knew a solid, clean game had a good chance to win and I also had a little room for error out there.”
Hoskins was the one to error early in the title match, missing the 2-pin on a spare attempt in the second frame and opening again in the third frame after a 2-4-10 split.
“I was hoping to put some pressure on him early in the match, but it turned out he put pressure on himself with the two open frames,” Goebel said.
