Company Town : Eisner Leaves Hospital Five Days After Surgery

Walt Disney Co. Chairman Michael D. Eisner was discharged from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Thursday, five days after undergoing a quadruple bypass for clogged arteries.

Eisner underwent the surgery Saturday after returning from an Allen & Co. investment meeting in Idaho. A hospital spokesman called Eisner’s recovery “absolutely superb.”

* Seeking to squeeze more business out of characters such as Fred Flintstone, George Jetson and Yogi Bear, Turner Broadcasting’s Hanna-Barbera Cartoons has named Tom Barreca to run its new Hanna-Barbera Enterprises.

Barreca, who will have the title of vice president of the new division, is a former Ogilvy & Mather advertising executive. Barreca plans to develop businesses related to the company’s classic cartoon characters in areas such as theme parks, animation art and retail.

Separately, Hanna-Barbera named Bill Burnett vice president/creative director and Juke Leman director of international marketing.

* Trimark Pictures promoted Judy Kouno-Cohen to vice president and controller.

Douglas Kay, senior manager for digital operations at Industrial Light & Magic, has moved to LucasArts Entertainment Co. as chief technical officer.

* William M. Baker will succeed Myron Karlin as president and chief operating officer of the Motion Picture Export Assn. of America, the global representative of the U.S. film, TV and video industry. Karlin will continue as a senior consultant to the association.

David Sobieraj is the new senior vice president of domestic sales and marketing for MDP Worldwide.

Larry Jackson has been named executive vice president for Andrew Davis’ Chicago Pacific Entertainment.

* Ivy Brown was named managing editor of Screen Actors Guild Publications, and David Vernasco was named supervisor of the Screen Actors Guild Film Society.

* Marvel Entertainment Corp. has named Jerry Calabrese president and chief executive of its consumer marketing unit.

* Joel Hornsock was promoted to senior vice president of production for 20th Television’s network television division.

* Iwerks Entertainment has promoted Edward Newquist to senior vice president and executive in charge of production.
