FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Brownies Donate Coffee Urn to Police

The members of Brownie Troop 847 say they are committed to giving something back to the community that supports their annual cookie sales.

To show their appreciation, the troop of mostly 6-year-old girls, who turned a profit of about $600 from Girl Scout cookie sales this year, donated an engraved coffee urn to the Fountain Valley Police Department last week.

“We want the community to know that a lot of good comes from the sale of Girl Scout cookies,” said Carol Barnes, leader of Troop 847.

The troop’s top three cookie sellers, Amanda Dobernic, Lisa Barnes and Ashley Engle, presented the commercial-size coffee urn to Police Chief Elvin G. Miali. The troop sold 1,378 boxes of cookies.

Lisa said her troop “thought it would be nice” to give the department the $79 gift. “It made me feel good,” she said.

Miali said the department doesn’t have a decent coffee pot that can be used for large community get-togethers, such as Neighborhood Watch meetings.

Barnes said the rest of the money raised from the sales helps to support troop activities. In accepting the gift, Miali told the Brownie troop members, who attend Mamie L. Northcutt Elementary School, that during cookie sales next spring they are welcome to stop by and see him.

“We’re not fools. We’ll be there,” Barnes said.
