SAN FERNANDO : $908,259 Allocated for Quake Repairs
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has allocated $908,259 to the city of San Fernando to help pay for damages caused by the Jan. 17 earthquake. The funds will be used to pay for damages to both commercial and residential properties.
Of the money, $108,000 has been set aside for the reconstruction of homes destroyed in the quake. These funds will be distributed through grants or loans. The maximum grant will be $5,000, and the maximum loan $20,000. Another $275,000 will be used to repair damaged homes; $250,000 will be used for the rehabilitation of commercial properties.
Damages for the January quake have been estimated at $2.3 billion, not including damage to federal and state properties, such as highways or bridges, which suffered an estimated $18 billion in damages.
