SANTA CLARITA / ANTELOPE VALLEY : 4 Suffer Minor Injuries in Jail Fight

Share

Four inmates are recovering from minor injuries received in a fight involving 35 to 40 African-American and Latino prisoners at the Pitchess jail earlier this week.

The 10-minute brawl occurred at about 7 p.m. Monday at the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho’s North County Correctional Facility, according to Sheriff’s Deputy Benita Hinojos. It broke out during an argument between inmates of the two groups but the exact cause was unknown, she said.

For several years there have been frequent fights, sometimes several a week, between African-American and Latino inmates at the jail.

Deputies were able to break up the fight by yelling at the participants and confiscated three broken broom handles. Two inmates were treated for minor stab wounds and two for minor cuts and bruises.
