GOINGS ON : Fiesta Will Celebrate Santa Barbara’s Roots : Spanish Markets and Los Lobos concert will bring festive flavor to city event.

From a morning party to an evening concert, Santa Barbara on Wednesday will kick off one of the city’s biggest and most popular events of the year, Old Spanish Days Fiesta.

This annual celebration of the city’s Spanish roots, running through Aug. 7, will feature parades, Spanish markets, crafts booths and plenty of festive music and dancing. But more on the latter part of the festival next week.

For now, let’s concentrate on Wednesday. Here’s the lineup:

Santa Barbara’s Downtown Organization will host the 22nd Annual Fiesta Breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. along the 1100 block of State Street. There will be Spanish dancing, costumed guests and complimentary breakfast provided by Acapulco Restaurant. Call 962-2098 for more information.

About the time the breakfast ends, the two Spanish markets will open--one at De La Guerra Plaza, the other at Las Positas and State streets (McKenzie Park).

Then at 5 p.m., Santa Barbara City College will be the site of the official opening ceremonies and carnival. Admission is free. Call 682-4713 for more information. The college is at 721 Cliff Drive.

And finally, the Grammy-winning band Los Lobos, with opening act Dave Alvin (formerly of the Blasters and X), will perform at Santa Barbara’s Arlington Theatre beginning at 8 p.m. General admission is $25.50 and $19.50. Local headless guys make good. Santa Barbara’s difficult-to-classify (new music? jazz-rock? rockin’ polka?) band Headless Household is hosting a party tonight at the Sea Cove Jazz Bar & Grill to celebrate the release of its second album, “Inside/Outside USA.” The party will begin about 8:30 p.m. with Household taking the stage for a couple of sets at 9 p.m.

The new CD includes guest performances by Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket; Nate Birkey of the Avant Gardeners; classical musician Gilles Apap, who has performed with the Santa Barbara Symphony; Ellen Turner of the band Dudley; and Jeff Elliott, who plays with Les McCann.

Sea Cove is located at 1014 State St. Admission is free.

Three suggestions before you attend the Greek Festival at Santa Barbara’s Oak Park this weekend: Arrive early (if you want to get good parking), be prepared for crowds (it will undoubtedly be elbow to elbow at times). And plan to eat a lot (it will be difficult not to, with all the aromas in the air). There will be dancing, music and merchandise booths. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. Admission is free. The park is located off the Mission Street exit of U.S. 101.

J.T. and the Zydeco Zippers will perform Sunday at Santa Barbara’s Alameda Park. The group will be on the bandstand stage from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The park is located at Micheltorena and Anacapa streets.

Music-ed out yet? No? Good, because Harry Connick Jr. and Funka Dunka will perform in concert Tuesday at the Santa Barbara Bowl, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40.50, $35.50, $30.50, and $28. Call Ticketmaster at 583-8700 or the Bowl at 568-2695. The Bowl is located at 1122 N. Milpas St.

Looking ahead: David Benoit’s scheduled Aug. 27 concert at The Gainey Vineyard in Santa Ynez has been canceled due to a scheduling conflict. In his place, acclaimed jazz saxophonist Dave Koz will perform beginning at 7:30 p.m. Koz’s debut album was on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Chart for 25 weeks, and his single “Castle of Dreams” was the No. 1 jazz piece for five weeks. Tickets go on sale Tuesday for the fourth annual “A Celebration of Harvest,” the popular food- and wine-tasting party put on by the Santa Barbara Vintner’s Assn.
