GOINGS ON : Santa Barbara to Celebrate Its 70th Old Spanish Days Fiesta : Event will be marked by music, dancing, a rodeo, parades and all sorts of other festivities.

Santa Barbara’s streets will be filled with 70th anniversary Old Spanish Days Fiesta activities this week, including a rodeo, parades, arts and crafts, music and more.

Some of the scheduled events over the next few days: Competicion de Vaqueros, a rodeo featuring riders from the professional circuit and local ranch cowboys, will be held at the Earl Warren Showgrounds at 7 p.m. today and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Box seats are $15 and $12, general admission is $7 (adults) and $5 (children age 12 and younger). Call 967-6331.

Noches de Ronda, a festival of Spanish music, dancing and singing, will be held at the County Courthouse Sunken Gardens, at Anapamu and Anacapa streets, tonight and Saturday at 8 p.m. Admission is free. Tardes de Ronda, a free children’s variety show, will run from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the same location.

Friday, El Desfile Historico, the traditional Old Spanish Days Fiesta Parade, will make its way from Cabrillo Boulevard to State Street, and up State Street to Sola Street, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Reserved seats are $10. Call 963-4408. A children’s parade, El Desfile de Los Ninos, will travel State Street between Victoria and Ortega streets, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

And finally, Old Spanish Days entertainment will close with the 28th Annual Free Fiesta Concert by the West Coast Symphony, Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Conductor Christopher Story VI will lead the ensemble in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Procession of the Nobels,” and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor. Guest conductor Robert Lentz, one of the original Little Rascals, will lead the symphony in Brahms’ Symphony No 1 in C Minor. Celebrity cartoon voice Don Messick will be the host.

The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is paying tribute to Old Spanish Days with an exhibit of Fiesta posters dating from 1936 to 1941. The silk-screened artwork, depicting the spirit of the festival, was created by Roy Lawhorne, advertising director of the former Seaside Oil company of Summerland. The exhibit will be on display through Aug. 19. The museum is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.to 9 p.m. Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. General admission is $3 (adults), $2.50 (seniors), $1.50 (age 6-16), and free (age 5 and younger). Admission is free on Thursdays and the first Sunday of each month. Glenna Hartmann, Larry Iwerks, Margie Gates and other local artists and photographers will display their aquatic work, beginning today, in the Marine Mammal Center of Santa Barbara’s sixth annual Marine Art and Photography Show. The exhibit, at the Cabrillo Arts Pavilion, will run through Aug. 28. There will be an opening reception this afternoon from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free. The Pavilion is located at 1118 E. Cabrillo Blvd.

A Company of Players of Santa Barbara will open “As You Like It,” its second Shakespeare in the Park program, Saturday at Las Positas Friendship Park. The play will run Saturdays and Sundays, from 5 to 8 p.m. through Aug. 28. Tickets are $10 (general), $8.50 (seniors and students), and free (age 12 and younger). Call (800) 800-4408. Interviews with Joan Baez, Ken Kesey and William Burroughs, and documentary clips of Jack Kerouac help illuminate “The Life and Times of Allen Ginsberg,” being screened Wednesday and next Thursday at Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theatre. The film about the influential ‘60s poet/spokesman will be shown at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. both days. Tickets are $6 (adults), $4 (seniors and children). The theater is at 33 E. Canon Perdido St.

Quite a commute, but probably worth it:

The California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles is being held through Aug. 14, and that means lots of big-name entertainment at decent ticket prices. Coming up are shows by comedian Gallagher (Friday, 8 p.m., $18, $13, and $10), Linda Ronstadt (Sunday, 8 p.m., $16 and $13), Vince Gill (Tuesday, 8 p.m., $18 and $16), and Wynonna Judd (Wednesday, 8 p.m., $18 and $16).
