VENTURA : Chamber Class Builds Leadership Skills

Share

The Greater Ventura Chamber of Commerce wants to help train future community leaders by sponsoring a special class designed to help those interested in public service to improve their communication and problem-solving skills.

The chamber will hold a breakfast on Thursday to preview the monthly class, entitled “Touch of Leadership Ventura.”

Jim Barroca, executive vice president of the chamber, said similar classes have been run by chambers in other cities throughout the country and have proven successful.

He said the Ventura class will offer 10 sessions for a charge of $700. The class starts Sept. 13 and ends June 10, 1995.

“It is aimed at trying to develop upcoming community leaders,” Barroca said. “We want to give them a knowledge of all aspects of the city and county--the education system, the political system, the government system.”

The preview breakfast will provide a chance to find out more by talking with graduates of the program from other cities.

The 8 a.m. event costs $5 per person and will be held at the Wedgewood Banquet Center on Olivas Park Drive in Ventura. For a class application, call the chamber at 648-2875.
