SIMI VALLEY : Firefighters Douse Blaze Near Landfill
Firefighters on Monday extinguished a 20-acre fire that burned through thick vegetation near the Simi Valley landfill, officials said.
The brush fire began about 1 p.m. in rugged terrain off Madera Road, about a half-mile north of the Simi Valley Freeway.
Firefighters from 10 engine companies and several hand crews worked to contain the blaze, assisted by a helicopter equipped with a bucket for water drops. The fire was contained by 5 p.m., said Nina Raya, spokeswoman for the Ventura County Fire Department.
The cause is still under investigation.
