Share

The city is seeking high school-age applicants for the 1994-95 Cypress Youth Commission.

The commission helps the city with many functions, including the Adopt-a-Family Program and Youth-in-Government Day.

Other activities include holiday events like the Cypress Easter Egg Hunt and the city’s Youth Art and Creative Writing Contest.

“We are taking applications until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12,” said June Liu, recreations services manager for the city.

Liu, who serves as the staff liaison for the Youth Commission, said 15 seats will be filled.

Liu said the applicants are interviewed by Recreation and Park Commission members, who then make recommendations to the City Council, which does the actual appointing.

Liu said applicants cannot be over 18 and must be eligible for high school.

“The applicants must at least be freshmen in high school this year,” she said.

Applicants also must be Cypress residents, able to attend Youth Commission meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m., and be “willing to devote the necessary time and effort to research, coordinate and execute commission projects.”

Applications can be made at the Cypress Personnel Department, 5275 Orange Ave., by the deadline, 5 p.m. Friday.
