Cuban Folkloric Group at Pasadena

Cuba’s oldest folkloric group, Los Munequitos de Matanzas, will perform Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at Pasadena City College. Founded in 1952, Los Munequitos de Matanzas is a 14-member percussion group, song and dance ensemble specializing in traditional rituals and rumbas.

A post-concert dance party will be held at 10:30 p.m. Friday at Steven’s Steak House in the City of Commerce, featuring Afro-Cuban music by Mazacote and MC1. All proceeds from both events will benefit the Institute of Cuban Folkloric Studies.

Tickets for the Pasadena performances are available from Ticketmaster and the Institute of Cuban Folkloric Studies. Prices are $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door. The post-concert dance party tickets are $15 and available only from the Institute of Folkloric Studies at (818) 453-8032.

Los Munequitos will also offer percussion and dance workshops on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at Pasadena College Studios and will perform on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the African Market Place in Rancho Cienega Park, 5001 Rodeo Road. Workshop tickets are $24 pre-sale from the Institute of Cuban Folkloric Studies or $30 at the door.
