CLAREMONT: A man who allegedly robbed a local bank in June turned himself in to Ontario police Monday, Claremont police said. On June 24, a man robbed Household Bank in the 400 block of North Indian Hill. He approached a teller with a demand note, told her that he had a gun and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. The incident was captured by the bank’s surveillance camera. On Monday, Richard Raul Campos, 39, walked into an Ontario storefront police station and confessed to the crime, police said. When he surrendered, Campos was apparently wearing the same multicolored baggy shorts that he was wearing when he allegedly robbed the bank.

COVINA: An unidentified man was shot and killed after an argument at a party on the 700 block of Armel Drive early Sunday morning. The man, who had been shot once in the chest, was taken to Inter-Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after the 1:30 a.m. incident. Another man, who apparently argued with the victim on the front lawn, pulled out a handgun and fired once, sheriff’s deputies said. He then fled the scene, deputies said. After a search by Covina police, the suspect was spotted at Covina High School. Salvador Camarillo,19, was arrested on suspicion of murder, deputies said. He was taken to Covina City Jail and authorities recovered a weapon believed to be the one used in the shooting.

MONTEREY PARK: A dispute between a man and his girlfriend ended in a murder/suicide Saturday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies said. A man shot and killed his girlfriend after an argument at the VIP Motel at 2619 North San Gabriel Blvd. at about 2 p.m., deputies said. According to witnesses, the couple were arguing on the sidewalk in front of the motel when the man pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and shot the woman numerous times in the upper body, deputies said. The man then walked to his pickup truck and headed north on San Gabriel Boulevard. When authorities followed the man, he stopped his truck in the middle of the 500 block of Gladys Avenue. And when sheriff’s deputies ordered him out of the truck, the man put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. Deputies believe the gun the man used to shoot himself was the same one used to kill his girlfriend. The man was identified as 28-year-old Rodrigo Gamboa.Authorities have not identified the woman.

POMONA: Police are searching for two men who allegedly beat and stabbed to death a transient found in the bushes in the 1500 block of West Mission Boulevard on Sunday night.


The victim, who has not been identified by authorities, is known in the area as Jesus Capo, 25, police said. The suspects are also transients. They have been identified as Jose Ramon Chavez, 25, and Saul Servin Zavala, 22, police said.

Capo and the suspects apparently frequented the 1600 block of West Mission Boulevard and worked at odd jobs for contractors in the area. Capo had a 5-year-old son named Jessie and both were known to sleep in makeshift shelters in the area, police said.

The victim is described as Latino, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 pounds. He had a tattoo of a spider web on his right elbow, a tattoo of Asian writing on his left forearm and three dots on the web of his right hand. He may have had relatives in Azusa.

Authorities said Chavez is 5-foot-9, 190 pounds, with black or dark brown hair, and Zavala stands 5-foot 9, 160 pounds, with dark hair.

SAN MARINO: A 57-year-old San Marino man was robbed Thursday night by two men who apparently followed him to his home in the 1100 block of Oak Grove Avenue, police said. The robbers, who were wearing ski masks, pointed a revolver at the man and took a gold Rolex watch, valued at $2,000. The robbers fled in a black 1980 Cadillac El Dorado with a landau, or fold-down, top.
