Share

Portions of 17th Street in Santa Ana will be closed starting at midnight tonight so that work crews can demolish a bridge that spans the Santa Ana Freeway.

The closure will extend from Penn Way to Santiago Avenue and will continue through Monday at 5 a.m. The road will be shut down again from midnight Aug. 27 to 5 a.m. Aug. 29.

The on-ramps from 17th Street to the Santa Ana Freeway will remain open, but the off-ramps from the freeway will be closed. Pedestrians will be prohibited from traveling on 17th Street during the closures.

Residents and merchants will probably hear some noise from the construction site, which will be illuminated by floodlights, according to a Caltrans news release.

Some vibrations from the work might also be felt, the statement said.

Seventeenth Street is a major route between Santa Ana and Tustin. The California Department of Transportation asks motorists to follow posted detour signs during construction.
