Five community leaders were named finalists for the 36th annual Fernando Award, which honors a San Fernando Valley resident for outstanding volunteerism, at a luncheon Friday at the Warner Center Marriot in Woodland Hills.

The finalists, selected from among 11 nominees, are Kenneth C. Banks Jr. of North Hollywood; former state legislator and Los Angeles Police Chief Edward M. Davis, Chatsworth; Clyde R. Porter, Woodland Hills; attorney Benjamin M. Reznik, Sherman Oaks, and car dealer Terry York, Encino.

“I am really impressed by the increase in the level of giving and volunteerism since the Northridge earthquake,” said David W. Fleming, president of Fernando Award Inc. “These people are reaching out to neighbors and to their community to help.”

Every year, the Fernando Award honors a person who has demonstrated a lifetime of personal involvement, commitment and contributions to the Valley, Fleming said.

The winner will be announced Nov. 4 at a dinner at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City.
