RANCHO CIENEGA : Red Cross Seeking Marrow Donors
The Los Angeles chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking African American bone marrow donors and will be testing potential candidates for five days at the African Marketplace and Cultural Faire at Rancho Cienega Park.
Red Cross officials say there is a critical need for marrow from African Americans, who make up only about 5% of the roughly 1 million registered donors. A patient’s chances of finding a matching donor are best when both share the same ethnic background.
Marrow transplants help combat leukemia and other fatal blood diseases.
Donors will be tested at the fair, at 5001 Rodeo Road, on Saturday and Aug. 28 and Sept. 3, 4 and 5.
Information: (800) MARROW-2.
